The mission of the ACS Division of Child Protection (DCP) is to protect all children who are being abused or neglected in the City of New York, and to make any necessary removals and placements into foster care.
The Child Protective Service's (CPS) Field Offices within DCP are responsible for intake of all CPS and non-CPS cases in ACS. Field Office Staff investigate child abuse and neglect reports :assess service needs and make referrals to preventive services, family preservation services and emergency services; remove children in immediate danger and place them in foster care when necessary; file cases in the family court, conduct court ordered investigations and supervision of families.
1) Family Services Units (FSU): are part of the division of Child Protection. FSU's are responsible for serving families by providing preventive and court ordered supervision services. The Mission of family services (FS) is to ensure the safety and well being of children, and to support parents and caretakers in providing a safe and nurturing home for their children.
2) Family Preservation Program (FPP): The mission of the ACS-FPP is, whenever possible, to keep families together by averting the removal and foster care placement of their (children),and to strengthen family and community life. |
